Lent Devotional Day 8

March 1, 2012 by Jong Park
Matthew 2:3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet

The head discombobulated from the heart is a tragic thing. The chief priests and scribes were able to tell Herod exactly where Jesus was to be born, but it was the Gentile wise men who actually made the journey to see him. For all their knowledge, the religious leaders of Israel did not budge an inch to seek and worship the Christ child, while the wise men left their home and ended at the foot of Jesus’ crib.

The goal of Lent is not to know more about God; it is to know him, and consequently, truly knowing him leads to loving him, and truly loving him leads to truly loving others. Have we truly gone through the ‘trouble’ of journeying to his side?

Prayer: Help me to know you Lord. Help me to love you Lord. Help me to love others, Lord. Thank you that you traveled from heaven to earth to love me; help me to travel from my complacency to a place of intimacy with you.
