Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a ministry project by Samaritan’s Purse that brings gift-filled shoe boxes to millions of hurting children in places like earthquake-devastaed Haiti and war-ravaged Sudan. Each box reminds the child that s/he matters, is loved, and not forgotten.
Beyond the boxes themselves, these tangible expressions of God’s love serve as openings to share the greatest gift He offers – the gift of His redemptive grace in Jesus Christ. In countries permitted, a follow-up discipleship program teaches the children the Gospel, invites them to trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, and equips them to share their faith with others.
This year, TRC is excited to partner with Naperville Presbyterian Church (NPC) and jointly respond to OCC’s mission to “demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.” Starting on Sunday, 10/30/11, we will be collecting school supplies, toys, clothes, and hygiene items to fill the shoe boxes. Every Sunday, there will be a registry of suggested items on display for people to consider to donate. The final collection date is on Sunday, 11/20/11.
Prayer is the cornerstone of this joint ministry effort. May you prayerfully consider how to be involved either through prayer and/or through your giving. It is our prayer and hope that God would broaden our perspective and to enlarge our capacity to love as Christ loved, so we may be conduits of His redemptive grace to all.
